More than 460 new buses will be on the routes in Almaty
12 april 2019

In Almaty, due to the transport reform, the renewal of buses and the increase in the route network of the city continue. This year, carriers are planning to buy more than 460 new buses.

The new buses will meet the Euro-5 environmental standard, equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance cameras and ramps. At the same time, since the beginning of the year, 125 new buses have already been launched on the city’s roads, serving the busiest routes, such as No. 65, No. 60 and No. 14.

It should be mentioned that the upgrade of the city’s bus fleet by 80% was made possible thanks to the introduction of the Onay cashless payment system, which allowed withdrawing money from the shadow turnover. If earlier buses were updated at the expense of budget funds, now transparent market mechanisms have been created that allow carriers to invest their own funds.

In general, within the framework of the transport reform done in Almaty, the bus fleet of the city in just two years has already been updated by more than 80%, the first BRT line in the country has been launched, carsharing services have been introduced, the construction of two new metro stations and the implementation of the LRT project continues.

In addition, from April 15, the city will begin a medium overhaul of more than 120 streets, new roads will be built on 456 streets in 14 city microdistricts. At the same time, construction works will not affect the work schedule and routes of public transport. To avoid traffic congestion, full road closure is planned only at night.
