The railway route "Almaty-Uzynagash" will run twice a day
21 may 2019

During the working visit, the governor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baybek checked the rolling stock of the Almaty-Uzynagash railway route. According to the growth of passenger traffic, the city authorities decided to increase the number of cars and the frequency of traffic on this route due to additional subsidies.

Intermediate stations are located in the villages of Burunday, Aksenger, Chemolgan and Zhingeldy. Currently, passenger traffic on the suburban route is about 900 people per day, while in summer time a decline is expected, so the route will be strengthened from August 25. If earlier in this direction 6 wagons were cruised there and back, then from August 25 the route will be serviced by 9 wagons making two round-journeys. The cars are equipped with air conditioning and televisions.

The governor of the city noted that about 275 thousand cars enter the city every day, creating enormous pressure on the transport infrastructure and the ecology of the city. Subsidizing only this railway route allows reducing the flow in this area by about 10 thousand cars.

“It’s wrong to just hold personal transport entering the region, as some network users demand. First of all, we are all citizens of the same country. Secondly, you need to create an alternative to movement. A huge number of people in areas adjacent to the city are economically tied to the Almaty market. Our key task is to provide high-quality public transport. Of course, this route is not used by the Almaty people themselves, but in order to improve the ecology and reduce mashines, we will strengthen this work. Suburban transportation should be part of the unified transport system of Almaty. Everybody will benefit from this and, first of all, the townspeople, ”said Bauyrzhan Baybek.

It is worth noting that as part of the transport reform implemented in Almaty, the bus fleet of the city has been updated by more than 80%, the first BRT line in the country has been launched, carsharing services have been introduced, construction of two new metro stations and the implementation of the LRT project continues.

Earlier, KTZh JSC decided to transfer the Almaty-1 and Almaty-2 railway stations to the city’s balance. This will allow the executive committee of Almaty not only to carry out the appropriate reconstruction of facilities, but also to develop them as part of the transport infrastructure of the metropolis.

At the expense of funds from the local budget in 2018, both railway stations were already reconstructed. Redistribution of flows with a priority for public transport was made in front of the stations themselves, pedestrian crossings with security islands were equipped and video surveillance cameras were installed.
