Almaty and St. Petersburg will develop a “Roadmap” for cooperation

The Russian delegation, led by a member of the government of St. Petersburg - Chairman of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Implementation of the Migration Policy, Oleg Kapitanov arrived in Almaty with a cultural and business mission.
The delegation was received by the Akim of Almaty, Bakytzhan Sagintayev. He discussed with Oleg Kapitanov the prospects for the development of relations between the two cities. The parties agreed to develop a “Roadmap” for cooperation in the areas of healthcare, education, tourism, culture and SMEs.
The delegation also participated in the conference "Almaty - St. Petersburg: the territory of new opportunities".
The Deputy Akim of the city of Almaty, Yerzhan Babakumarov made a welcoming speech. He noted that the event will positively affect the development of cultural and business relations between Almaty and St. Petersburg.
“Kazakhstan and Russia have a long special historical relationship, confirmed by the Treaty of Eternal Friendship and Brotherhood. Our relations can be considered the standard of interstate relations. Almaty and St. Petersburg can play a big role in strengthening the good neighborliness of the two countries. For the record, fraternal relations between Almaty and St. Petersburg are more than 20 years old. And today we can give a new impetus for further cooperation, ”said Yerzhan Babakumarov, deputy akim of the city of Almaty.
The Consul General of the Russian Federation in Almaty, Evgeny Bobrov, noted that Kazakhstan and Russia need to increase joint work. According to him, Almaty and St. Petersburg have many similarities, and cooperation between Russia and Almaty is very close. In 2018, trade between Russia and Almaty amounted to $ 4.7 billion.
“I would like to confirm the words just said that our two states are not just strategic allies, but also equal partners. We really have a very rich joint history. And our task is not only to preserve everything that we received from our fathers and grandfathers, but also to increase and improve our relations, ”said the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Almaty, Evgeny Bobrov.

“Our delegation includes representatives of the cultural community, education, businessmen. The most advanced companies are present in Almaty from St. Petersburg,” said O. Kapitanov, noting that the mission is not only cultural and educational in nature, but also pursues purely practical goals to establish long-term mutually beneficial ties in business, educational and humanitarian projects.
The delegates of the mission of St. Petersburg with the heads of specialized departments of the Akim of Almaty discussed the priorities of trade and economic cooperation, the prospects for interaction and implementation of joint projects in the system of preschool, general, additional and secondary vocational education. In addition, priority issues of humanitarian cooperation, including partnerships in the fields of culture and tourism, were put on the agenda.
As part of the mission, a ceremonial transfer of the St. Petersburg literature to the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a gala concert of the Quintet of Four musical group and the Mariinsky Theater soloist Leonid Zakhozhaev took place.
