Projects to improve the ecological state of the city were announced by the Almaty Akimat
22 june 2020

At the site of the Almaty Regional Communications Service, the head of the Department of the Green Economy of the city, Natalya Livinskaya, spoke about the work being done to improve the ecological well-being of citizens.

Earlier in Almaty, Akim B. Sagintayev announced the launch of an environmental project to inform citizens about air quality and the environment.

“8 automated stationary and 2 mobile posts were installed, and a project was launched to inform citizens about air quality in various parts of the metropolis on LED screens,” N. Livinskaya said.

According to the Department, in the near future it is planned to launch several projects that are aimed at improving the environmental situation in the metropolis: - a “Day without cars” - by blocking roads from motor vehicles in certain areas of the city every Sunday; - arrangement of bike paths (lanes) with a total length of 28 km.

“After stabilizing the epidemiological situation, we plan to create temporary pedestrian zones in the Almaly district as part of a pilot project. Thus, after considering the effectiveness, we plan to systematize this measure,” the speaker said.

To implement these and other projects, a Working Group was created, which included activists, bloggers, environmental associations, scientists, and others. During the meetings of the Working Group, a Comprehensive Plan of Measures to Improve the State of Atmospheric Air in the City of Almaty for 2020-2025 is being developed.

By 2022, the emission of pollutants into the air are expected to be reduced from 123 thousand tons to 94 thousand tons, and by 2025, taking into account the conversion of TPP-2 to gas, emissions are planned to be reduced to 48.4 thousand tons from all sources of pollution.
